SPELLERS OF ALL AGES COMPETE AT FARM FAIR


(Belcamp, Maryland – August 4, 2014) The annual Literary Spelling Bee at the Harford County Farm Fair was filled with excitement for spellers and readers alike. Hosted by Harford County Public Library, 39 participants from children through adult competed in this year’s event on August 3.

Children enjoyed spelling words like “swan” from The Ugly Duckling and “chimney” from Mary Poppins. Adults were challenged with words like “marionettes” and “unparalleled.” All participants were given a Farm Fair ribbon and small prize from the Library. The first, second and third place winners were also allowed to choose a new book from the Library plus the Library mascot, Tales, was in attendance to cheer on the children and take pictures with the winners.

Winners in each category were:
Entering Kindergarten:
• First Place- Lenny Elliott
• Second Place- Julian Young
• Third Place- Shane Elliott
• Fourth Place-Mia Gutierrez
Entering Grades 1-2:
• First Place tie- Auni Parsa & Jenna Roh
• Third Place tie- Jake Jestel & Ethan Ryan
• Fourth Place- Andrew Blackburn
Entering Grades 3-4:
• First Place- Jeremy Jestel
• Second Place tie- Sophia Cramer & Andrew Fulco
• Third Place tie- Morgan Hennigan & Jaansi Parsa
Entering Grades 5-6:
• First Place tie- Mackenzie Alderson, Elizabeth Kelly & Khiyali Pillalamarri
• Fourth Place-Madelyn Phelps
Entering Grades 7-8:
• First Place- Michael Jennings
• Second Place- Samuel O’Neill
• Third Place- Isaac Leszczar
• Fourth Place- Nikki Holmes
Adults:
• First Place- Betsy Wasson
• Second Place- Aravinda Pillalamarri
• Third Place- Barbara Kreamer
• Fourth Place tie- Mary Lynn Bezek & Bob Mumby
